An Art Critique
The fish are a bright orange will the rest of the painting is blue or black. The girl is pale with her shirt being a light blue. The textbooks are varying in colors ranging from red to a light green. The water is a light color at the top, almost appearing a very light green, and becoming darker down the painting. Most of the colors in the painting are dull when compared to the brightness of the fishes.
In my opinion, the artist is trying to express the hardships of school. This is shown by the large stack of papers, the giant textbooks, and the girl sleeping from what looks like after finishing her work. This is to show that the pile of work is pulling her to the bottom of the ocean and not getting back up anytime soon. The bubbles could represent her peers rising up to the surface while she stays down in the ocean, asleep.
I like this painting because it relates to me. When I have too many assignments, I start feeling dragged down when I don't finish my work on time. The craftsmanship of this painting is amazing even when looking at the detail of the fish in the very back of the artwork. This painting moves me to try harder to get my work done to try and not fall behind my peers. In all I really like this painting.
